My car is a lease, so repairs are mandatory, and my insurance co says if their appraiser estimates it be less than $1k, it won't be covered. I wanted to see what you smarties think I should do next. First, he books it after hitting me, now he lies to his insurance so they won't pay. All I want is for this guy to pay for the damages HE caused, but now I'm getting irritated. I forwarded this to my insurance company, and about a week later they finally got around to telling me his insurance is refusing to cooperate and stopped answering phone calls because they said their client says *I* initiated the accident so they find ME at fault and won't pay.
#Word vs word insurance claims drivers
She says "Ok, I will go and talk to the guy and if his visual description matches what you say, and the damage on the car lines up, I'll provide you with his info." She calls me back about a week later and provides me with his full name, address, DOB, Drivers License #, VIN, car make and model, and his insurer and policy #. Then I call the state patrol, explain the situation, and the female officer is sounding like she's taking it as I want to press a hit and run charge, but I honestly just want my car fixed, so I told her I probably wouldn't be pressing charges. he then proceeds to gas it, so I catch up, write down his plates, then get off the freeway and go home. As I start slowing, this guy gets mad and starts flashing his brights really really fast, so I just kept slowing down, slower and slower, until finally he jumped into the now open lane to our right, passes me, and then cuts back into the carpool lane well before he has cleared my car and so his drivers side rear bumper connects with my passenger side front bumper. I obviously can't go anywhere (in far left lane, traffic in front of me, solid line of cars in the lane to my right) so I start slowing down to get behind the line of cars to my right so I can merge over. Seemingly out of nowhere (I stay very vigilent about monitoring my mirrors while I drive) this car come up on my ass like SUPER close, felt like less than a foot, and stays there. The lane to my right is a solid line of cars with no where for me to merge over. Is this a threat? Is this inadvisable? Are there other actions I should take instead?Ĭoming home on the freeway, I'm in the carpool lane, approaching some folks who were going 60 in the carpool lane, so I slow to their speed while I wait for a chance to pass them. Ideally, I'd call him, without revealing my name (I'm not sure what information he has about me) tell him I'm going to proceed with the hit and run charge if his insurance continues to refuse to pay. I told the state patrol officer I didn't plan on pressing a hit and run charge, as I just wanted my car to be repaired by HIS insurance (I have a $1k deductible which I will have to pay if his insurance bails) but now that having his insurance pay seems like less of an option, I want to know what steps you guys would recommend following up with. I filed a claim with my insurer, provided them the other guy's insurance info as soon as I got it, and now his insurance is saying that it's word vs word, and they won't pay.

About two weeks ago, I was coming home from the Book of Mormon with my gf, and as we we're almost home, long story short, another car hit me and then took off, so I chased him, got his plates, called the WA state patrol, gave them his plate information and about a week ago they called me back and provided me with his Name, Address, DOB, LIC#, VIN, etc, but most importantly insurance information.
